I went to a Superbowl party fully expecting to eat all the snacks and watch none of the game. I did of course intend to watch the halftime show, because like everyone else who doesn’t watch football but watches the Superbowl, the halftime show is the big draw. Katy Perry was AWESOME! Her singing was on point, costumes changes were like magic (How did she do it so fast? Where did she do it? IT WAS MAGIC!), flying around the stadium on the The More You Know star was nostalgic genius, but the show-stealer was without a doubt the dancing sharks!
The sharks came out during Teenage Dream and California Gurls and they were almost indescribably amazing. In addition to sharks, there were also adorably smiley beach balls and palm trees (and surf boards, but they had no faces so I did not grow an emotional attachment). All the colours in the show were so vibrant that they looked like cartoons, which definitely added to the sharks’ greatness.
I believe that all future halftime shows and Katy Perry appearances will have to live up to/out do the sharks, and that will definitely be a challenge.
Despite my original intentions, I did end up paying attention to the actual football game and I am glad that I did because it turned into hockey at the end when there were 20 seconds left to play: a fight broke out and so many flags were thrown. I thought the game was never going to end. But then it did and Patriot fans were happy.
Just when it was looking like the Seahawks might actually pull off a win, Patriots’ cornerback Malcom Butler made a very important interception at the 1 yard line (what did I even just say?) that effectively gave his team the win. I was at a party of all Patriots fans so there was much jubilation, but when they showed the reaction of Seahawks’ player Richard Sherman, it broke my heart.

Somebody get this guy a dancing shark to cheer him up!
