I am pretty much an expert on Sir Francis Drake (I researched him for about 15 minutes for this video) and from what I know, he and the Spanish did not get along.

It is by this logic that I assumed the Spaniards of the 16th century probably blamed him for everything. I mean they really hated the guy. Missing chest of gold ducats? Blame Drake. An entire ship’s crew ends up dead and shipless? Blame Drake. Cannon misfires? Blame Drake. The goddamn rain won’t let up and you’ve got a picnic planned? You better believe some Spaniards were blaming Drake for that. And it would’ve only added fuel to their passionate hate fire. But don’t worry guys, Drake hated the Spaniards just as much.
