All right, I’ve done a couple more sculptures.
As promised, a penny-farthing. This is the first time I’ve used both sizes of wire together.

The next one, a fish tank, is based on Alexander Calder’s Goldfish Bowl. I like mine better because I have captured the true feeling of a fish tank, where as Calder did not capture that of a bowl, since bowl’s are round and his sculpture is square. Just kidding Calder, you da man. I made this one as another attempt at going 3D. It is also the first time I made any real shapes from the thinner wire.

And finally, for now, I made two little birds on a tree branch. This one is made entirely out of the thinner gauge wire. After working with the thin stuff for a while, I tried bending the thicker wire and it was very difficult. I haven’t decided which I like working with better, the thin wire is easy to use but can sometimes look messy, and the thick wire is fairly easy to use and generally produces clean lines, but it’s not good for details. I will continue to use both, however, since I paid for the wire and I have a lot left. By the time I am done both spools I may have chosen a favourite, or I may buy a third gauge of wire, and start all over.

what made you think of calder! I love him, you are good too. I saw a major retrospective of his work in Paris, that makes me sound posh, but really we stumbled upon it while getting lost on our first night. xo
Getting better 🙂
I love the old-time bicycle and the tolerant birds. You probably have enough work now to mount an exhibition!
