So Long Summer Style

The air is crisp with an autumn chill and summer is but a fading memory. Like many sun-revellers, I am not quite ready to give up the summer season. Unfortunately, save for championing global warming, there’s not much I can do to stop the weather from changing. One thing I can do, however, is to feign seasonal ignorance, break all the fashion rules, and paint my nails with my L’Oreal Hot Summer nail polish trio.

It was in the wee hours of the a.m. that a friend alerted me to this Well.ca sale on nail polish: $8 for three colours in the L’Oreal Colour Riche line. I was sold. I made the purchase within minutes (and even convinced another friend to do the same). In what couldn’t have been more than a few days later there was a package waiting for me when I got home from work. I ripped it open and beheld in front of me Greycian Goddess, Boozy Brunch (is there any other kind?) and Devil Wears Red.

I was already a fan of L’Oreal polish having purchased a dark purple colour from the same line. I knew immediately that these colours would be fantastic quality (no more than two coats needed for perfect coverage), what I didn’t know is how the colours would translate from online to real life. I’d never bought nail polish without seeing it in person; most of the time I even try it on a nail or two before I make my decision. The Devil Wears Red is dark and rich; it also has a bit of shimmer element to it, which was is brilliant because I love all things glittery. The Boozy Brunch, a sort of tangerine colour, was exactly as pictured and probably my favourite of the trio – something that would become evident if you saw my polish collection and the special shelf I have just for orange-tones. Greycian Goddess won me over, not only because of its punny name, but for its beautiful matte tone. This colour has garnered me the most compliments so far.

In my quest to prolong the summer, I decided to go all out and paint my nails using all three of these polishes. At first thought you might think red, orange, and grey is a strange combination of colours to rock at one time but your first thought would be wrong. My nails look fabulous. Not one to make things simple, I created a different design for each fingernail showcasing each colour. After applying the first colour on the whole nail (Greycian Goddess), I used strips of masking tape to block off sections to paint – making sure the put tape over the areas I want to remain grey, like a stencil. The masking tape acts just like it does when you’re painting a room and trying to keep your baseboards free from your terrible painting skills. Tips for this type of design, make sure the undercoats are completely dry before applying tape, and remove the tape immediately after painting. When it’s all done, I apply my favourite top coat (Seche Vite, also available on Well.ca) and it’s done!

My nails look great (this design is a real conversation starter) and they remind me of summer all gloomy day long. As a bonus that I had not anticipated, since the colours include a red and orange, they transition nicely into fall tones and help me shepherd in the new season gracefully instead of kicking and screaming which I am wont to do.

The selection of top brands (Sally Hansen Xtreme wear is an amazing polish) and colours is enough to keep me shopping at Well.ca, the free delivery is the cherry on top.

Do me a favour, if you liked this post go check it out (and others similar to it) on the Well.ca blog! They’ve got great info and insights into the website’s products. If you haven’t heard of Well.ca before, then come out from under that rock and visit the site!
