Cats & Yarn

My friend Katie’s mum asked me to make something out of wire for her daughter; we talked about it a little bit and settled on something with cats. You see, Katie has two cats. Katie is also very silly and I imagined that her cats are also very silly. What is more silly than the thought of cats playing with and getting tangled up in a ball of yarn? Not much, I say. And so became the idea for the sculpture.

I got confirmation from Katie that she got the package in the mail so I am now free to put up pictures without ruining any surprises : )

Oh so mischevious

Shelley sent me some wonderful Canadian gifts from Iqaluit!

  1. I love the expression and posture of the one on the left – you can tell it’s reallly up to something and glad about it!

  2. The HSC (Health and Safety Committee – Fonthill branch) would just like to mention (with some firmness) that yarn and inquisitive (or simply neurotic) animals can be risky in combination. Also curling ribbon, sewing thread (sat next to a cat visiting the vet for this), etc. Never give in to a temptation to pull on the above while being extruded. We had a situation with some raffia once, and my friend’s dog had an encounter with plastic wrap (I was a spectator for that on a walk, and it wasn’t pretty), and in another incident – unspooled cassette tape (an additional advantage to the development of CD’s!).

  3. Tee hee. They’re great. Thank goodness you posted a picture. Kat’s and string a fun combo! …haha

  4. Wonderful, Kat. Reminds me a lot of Kandy and Marco as kittens getting up close and personal with a ball of red yarn.

  5. What a great sculpture! You’ve captured the essence of cat-ness with this one – curious, playful, mischievous. How could anyone not love cats?
