Mr Turtle

I made this one a little while ago, it was a request by my friend Mike. I ended up making it and sending it to him for his birthday so I didn’t want to post a picture of it until I knew he’d received it, so as not to spoil the surprise. Well, he has received it so now I can make a post! Now,  he requested Mr Turtle from My Name Is Earl. I haven’t watched this show, so I thought maybe it was a stuffed animal, or a cartoonized turtle, but no, it was just a regular, real life, turtle. I haven’t developed the knack to capture real likenesses in my wire art yet. What I did make is a turtle that is recognizable as a turtle.

So cute he can fit in the palm of your hand

This little guy was by far the most painful thing I’ve made to date. All those tiny pieces of wire to connect the circles were sharp, pointy, and the shorter the wire the harder it is to bend, so they were not interested in cooperating with me. I tried to tell them, “Look, wire, you’re going to be made into art, can’t we work this out?” And they said, “Hell no! I never asked to be no damn turtle!” They’re pretty blasphemous.
