Today is November 1st. I moved to England, roughly, one month and four days ago. This entire blog is dedicated to my mum. I know it was really hard for her to let me leave, but I’m happy she did, and I wanted to do this for her because I want to keep her (and my dad) as informed of my life as if I were still living only an hour and a half away.
As a big fan of chronology, this is going to be hard for me, but for the first little while this blog is going to go back and forth on the timeline of my life. I didn’t have internet access for the first 20 or so days of living here, so a play by play blog of my experience was just out of the question. However, thanks to an appropriate gift from my aunt and uncle, I have been recording certain experiences in notebook, which I will transcribe to this blog one at a time. Some of these entries will be directly related to living in York, and some are the same things I would be talking about if I still lived in Canada. Spoiler alert: customer service jobs are exactly as irritating in different countries, despite the accent.
I have been very lucky to move to a different country with no life plan or jobs lined up and to find something full-time on my first day. I understand that I am lucky and I appreciate every opportunity I have been afforded. I am extremely grateful for every moment I spend in this country, and I want to thank all of my friends and family for helping me get here (and for helping me feel like I was able to get here). I miss you. I can’t wait to see you again and share everything with you.
PS: Happy birthday, mummy!
